Female Genital Mutilation

Female Genital Mutilation

The NSPCC report that there are an estimated 137,000 women and girls affected by Female Genital Mutilation in England and Wales. This is not “somebody else’s problem” it is a concern for all of us and something that we all need to ready to respond to. But we can only respond to something that we more fully understand. This module is designed to act as a two-hour CPD stand-alone workshop and/or as a session within a wider, day-long Public Protection Learning and Development event.

Course content:

  • By the end of this module the attending participants will be able to, amongst other learning outcomes:
  • State what Female Genital Mutilation – in all of its forms – is
  • Discuss and explain many of the cultural issues that surround it
  • List the various legislative options that exist within UK law (insomuch as it relates to England and Wales) that are relevant to dealing with Female Genital Mutilation
  • Apply those legislative frameworks to practical examples and thus be able to identify thresholds of intervention and obligations to report
