Mark has extensive experience in managing sensitive and critical matters with the potential to affect organisational reputation in inflammatory situations.
During 30 years in the police force, Mark rose to the rank of Detective Inspector, managing complex investigations into child abuse, sexual exploitation, rape, cultural crimes and human trafficking.
He has reviewed and investigated Safeguarding incidents in both maintained and independent schools, as well as in care homes. Mark was responsible for the safe management of dangerous offenders living in the community, and for overseeing police responsibilities under Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA). Mark has worked with the Local Children’s Safeguarding Board, CEOP and foreign law enforcement.
A former chief police officer, Steve is committed to empowering individuals working within schools, as well as other organisations with responsibility for the safety and welfare of children, to protect the children in their charge; and, in so doing, to develop both their own and their organisations’ professional reputations.
Steve’s approach to this is to transform the way schools and organisations work in partnership to deliver knowledge, skills and support.
Having spent 32 years in policing, Steve has unrivalled strategic and operational experience in protecting the most vulnerable members of the public, establishing standards and driving excellence. He led complex and sensitive investigations and reviews at local, regional and national levels.
In the role of Chief Officer, Steve was responsible for delivering protective services policing across one of the largest non metropolitan police forces in England & Wales. He was successful in driving up standards and increasing multi-agency effectiveness in the management of dangerous offenders through the Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA). process, and in child Safeguarding through the Local Child Safeguarding Board (LSCB).
At a national level, Steve held responsibility for policing portfolios including Investigative Interviewing, Deaths in Healthcare Settings, and Homicide Investigation.
Steve led the British War Crimes team in Kosovo.
Richard is a former Senior Police Officer with both operational and strategic experience in a variety of Police roles that include Public Protection (safeguarding children and vulnerable adults), serious & organised crime, Intelligence, performance management, Local Policing Command and organisational change. Richard has extensive executive partnership experience in both the public sector and private sector and has led on a number of high profile safeguarding and criminal cases. Richard is a qualified teacher with experience of university lecturing. Richard has international working experience with the US, Turkey and India and his doctorate study was safeguarding children in schools.
Richard is also the Independent Chair of the Portsmouth Safeguarding Children Board and lectures at Solent Southampton University to with a variety of volunteering roles with young people.
Filling the role of Strategic Advisor to Ethica Solutions, Vic served at senior level in four different Government Departments (Ministry of Defence, HM Revenue and Customs, Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Home Office) during a long and varied career.
He has held a number of key positions, including Interim Director General of the Crime and Policing Group, Director of the National Drug Strategy, Director of Policing Policy and Operations, Director of the National Crime Agency Programme, and Deputy Director of the UK Immigration Service.
Vic’s responsibilities have included strategic oversight of a number of Home Office executive agencies, such as the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP).
In addition, Vic led a range of major programmes, including implementation of the recommendations which emerged from the Bichard Inquiry into the Soham murders, and the establishment of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
In addition to his participation in the management of Ethica Solutions, Vic provides consultancy advice on a wide range of issues to clients in the public, private and third sectors. His current assignments include participation in a Department for Education funded project (New Belongings) aimed at improving the lives and opportunities of young people leaving care.
Vic was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2007, and is a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB).
Jos has been a Social Care professional since 1979, filling both practitioner and management roles. The majority of her career has been specialised in Child Protection. Jos has served, at various times, as Child Protection Conference Chair, on-call Manager for the out of hours Emergency Duty Team, Team Manager for Protection and Court Social Workers and, latterly as the Service Manager for Social Care responsible for Child Protection services in a local authority.
Jos played a key role in the development of the MASH and early intervention teams in two local authorities, working closely with partner organisations. Jos is also an experienced trainer, having worked alongside police colleagues to teach Social Workers and police officers to interview children in child abuse cases.
John brings diverse expertise to the Ethica Safeguarding team. A former senior detective with more than 30 years’ experience in the UK and foreign jurisdictions, John has an outstanding track record in managing Investigation, Offender Management and Project teams. He is recognised as an expert in the investigation of sexual crimes committed by UK citizens against children in foreign jurisdictions, and is experienced in creating policy, and driving its strategic and tactical application, in Safeguarding, child protection and the investigation of serious crime.
John’s practical experience is complemented by an impressive academic and Doctoral research background. With qualifications as a teacher in adult learning and development, John has delivered training to national and international NGOs, academic institutes and governmental organisations.
With a specialist academic interest in the psychology of child sex abuse offender behaviour, Nigel joined the police in 1993. He began investigating child abuse on the internet in 2001, since when he has focused on investigating sexual and physical offences against children. He was a key member of the national sub-group for Effective Practice and Training of Child Protection for the UK, and is a Tactical Interview Manager at the highest level, managing suspect and victim interviews for the most serious and complex of crime investigations.
Nigel trains prison staff at the UK’s first sex-offender-only Prison establishment, and teaches on the Joint Services Ministry Of Defence Police’s CID course. An Associate Lecturer at Winchester University and Visiting Fellow at Portsmouth University, Nigel was also accredited in 2016 as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Nigel is also involved in the training and development of child protection teams in Cambodia.
Tim brings both training and Safeguarding experience to the Ethica team. He has carried out consultancy and training roles in twelve Countries, working with UNICEF on a programme assisting in the creation of Family and Child Protection Units in Sudan, and with the United Nations in both China and Japan.
Tim works with a number of local authority social services departments across England and Wales in an advisory and training capacity. He has also worked with representatives from the Health and Education sectors, as well as private organisations, across a wide range of Safeguarding, policing, law-enforcement and other rule-of-law settings.
30 years’ experience in social care and youth work with over 14 years’ experience as a Senior Manager within the social care sector, specialising within child disability, facilitating and delivering training events to different audiences in social care, education, health as well as parent carers. Presenting neglect and reflective supervision workshops for the LSCB Improving Practice, Neglect Sub Groups and Child Death Over View Panel.
Independently commissioned to complete a Local Authority Disabled Children’s Service Safeguarding Peer review and delivered University seminar training to student social workers and teachers on communicating with disabled children.
Maintaining high professional standards through auditing and quality assurance, ensuring standards are met through Ofsted and CQC. Multi-agency working with health, education, SEN and police with Complex Abuse Investigations.
Using a creative and flexible approach and leading staff groups to look at different ways of working, bringing together communities of teams to create more effective partnership working.
Jayne is a highly experienced safeguarding professional. She is a skilled manager and has dealt with the most sensitive child protection matters.
Managing a team of busy social care staff Jayne understands the pressures of working to time lines whilst not compromising on quality.
Jayne uses a client centred approach and reflective systemic practice which enables effective working together with partner agencies to ensure better outcomes for children and families.
Glen has 25 years post qualifying experience in Social Care working first as a Manager in Domiciliary Care in the North of England, managing over 40 staff who were providing a service for vulnerable adults and families. He then managed a Risk Assessment Unit in the South of England with a staff made up of Therapists, qualified Social Workers and family workers and provided timely risk assessment reports for the local authority. In the Child Protection Sector he has held a number of senior roles including Consultant Practitioner, Children’s Guardian, and Senior Practitioner. He had a key role in a number of high profile cases and received commendation from the judge for his practice and his sensitivity to service users. He has also carried out independent fostering assessments and parenting assessments.
Glen is a hardworking, motivated, excellent team player and he maintains good working relationships with partner agencies and clients. He has good powers of persuasion and negotiating skills.
Glen is passionate about safeguarding children. He always seeks to ensure that the child’s voice is heard and that packages of support provided for families are appropriate, targeted, monitored and reviewed so that the children have the best outcome.
Felicity has been an Assistant Director in Children’s Services in three different local authorities over the last nineteen years and has been a qualified social worker for twenty years longer than that, working for both the local authority and the NSPCC. Felicity has practised in all areas of Children’s Social Care as a practitioner and manager and has a wealth of both practical and strategic knowledge of safeguarding. However, she has never lost her passion for protecting vulnerable children.
Felicity has been involved in a number of sensitive and high profile child protection investigations, she has chaired Area Child Protection Committees and has been a member of the Local Safeguarding Children Board in three local authorities.
Felicity has jointly chaired Complex Abuse Investigations with senior police colleagues.
