More frequently, organisations are finding that there is a need to conduct effective investigations into matters around safeguarding, HR or conduct arising within the workplace.

In order to both serve the needs of the organisation and to ensure that those subject to the investigation are treated fairly and ethically, it is essential that investigations are conducted both impartially and effectively whilst applying methodologies that are recognised as best practice.

This course provides a firm foundation for professionals charged with conducting and reporting upon such investigations. The course is impactive and interactive, delivered by experts in the field of investigations at all levels including the most complex and serious.

Throughout the course Candidates are introduced to an investigation and taken through the processes, including initial response and actions, investigative strategies, decision making and interview planning, together with practical interviewing and work place/space property searching exercises, the learning is enhanced by use of case studies.

Strong emphasis is placed upon proper recording of all actions in order to achieve an evidentially sound and professional product suitable for examination in a criminal, civil or tribunal arena.

  • Define an ‘Investigation’ and describe the role of the ‘Investigator’
  • Describe the investigative process and the investigative mindset. 
Identify the stages of an investigation
  • Explain the term ‘Golden Hour’ and its relevance to the gathering of evidential material
  • Analyse and take appropriate actions against decisions made to maximise evidential gathering opportunities
  • Formulate decisions against appropriate Company policies by use of a case study involving an employee
  • Identify and record those decisions correctly
  • Evaluate earlier decisions made as new information is revealed
  • Prepare a plan of investigative action
  • Reflect and take appropriate actions against decisions made to minimise risk
  • Demonstrate the application of Note taker
  • Plan and prepare for effective interviews
  • Analyse the interview product and identify 
further areas for questioning by use of 
PLAT
  • Understand the different 
questioning styles
  • Demonstrate investigation and evidential evaluation by use of a case study involving an employee
  • Identify and record the evaluation process and actions correctly
  • Identify evidential gaps by appropriate use of Gap Analysis
  • Review evidential material in their possession to identify further lines of enquiry and evidential opportunities
  • Recognise relevant material and plan and prepare an interview plan with the material available

  • Formulate search decisions and actions against appropriate Company policies by use of a case study involving an employee
  • Identify and record those decisions and actions correctly
  • Identify the appropriate level of search activity
  • Prepare and plan for effective search activity
  • Explain the importance of record keeping and continuity

  • Review evidential material in their possession to identify further lines of enquiry and evidential opportunities
